25 Hour Restorative Teacher Training

Go deep into the nourishing art of restorative yoga over 3 days of intensive training and experience the magic of the poses for yourself as you learn tips of the trade from an experienced restorative yoga teacher. We will focus on the elements needed to support your students to go deep into their restorative practice, and develop an internal state of calm. We will explore in depth the key poses you will use in your classes, and will take an experiential hands-on approach.
Marian specialises in long-hold, well-propped restorative poses in quiet spaces. She has been teaching yoga for over 10 years and has specialised in restorative yoga for the past 6 years. Marian has run hundreds of workshops in this time, and has taught well over 1000 restorative students. Trained by Judith Hanson Lasater, she is a certified Relax and Renew Trainer. She is deeply passionate about sharing this nourishing and inspiring practice with you.
Course Content

  • The difference between long and short-hold poses for minimal props
  • Learn some key short-hold poses
  • Hands-on tuition on the importance of supporting the head in restorative yoga
  • Discuss the philosophy of restorative yoga
  • Learn the physiology of stress and of restorative yoga
  • Explore the benefits of restorative yoga
  • Learn key restorative yoga principles
  • Engage with ideas of teacher approach and attitude
  • Explore the principles of sequencing
  • Hands-on exploration of the use of props
  • Experience holding space for your students
  • Discuss teacher voice and instructions
  • The importance of teaching from the heart
  • The place for pranayama, yoga nidra and meditation alongside a restorative practice
  • Discuss the practicalities of running restorative workshops
  • Explore the different approaches to teaching restorative yoga
  • The many forms of savasana and its importance in restorative yoga

Attend a 2 hour restorative yoga workshop with Marian either before or within 2 months of the training.

General Schedule
Day 1: introductions, general restorative yoga principles, angles of support, head support techniques, props, long hold savasana.
Day 2: physiology of stress and restorative yoga, head above the heart poses - short and medium and long hold poses, pranayama in restorative, and savasana variations.
Day 3: yoga philosophy for restorative yoga, teacher attitude, the energetics of holding space, sequencing, practicalities of teaching, teaching approaches, head below the heart poses - short, medium and long hold poses, meditation in restorative, and savasana variations.
Homework Tasks (2 months to complete)
1. Write a script of what you would say to describe restorative yoga at the beginning of a class. 
2. Explain the physiology behind stress, and why restorative yoga is beneficial (up to 1000 words).
3. Take photos of a friend or family member in each of the long-hold poses we will learn throughout the teacher training, from the side and from above. You will receive feedback, and may be required to re-do some of the poses if required.
4. One in-depth case study of a student including their presenting complaint/s, their medical history, their experience of yoga/general fitness, any relevant general observations, why you believe restorative yoga would be beneficial for them, choose 3 poses for them, explain why you chose these poses, and photograph them from the side and above. Include feedback from the student after the poses.
